Fano Marine Center - DIDAMAR

Unique in the Mediterranean

One of a kind in the Mediterranean, DIDAMAR combines scientific research with an innovative educational experience open to the public and schools, playing a vital role in promoting and disseminating knowledge about marine biodiversity. Starting in June 2025, the center launched an educational journey with a fascinating and timely theme: “Adriatic in Evolution: Monitoring, Protecting, and Understanding Our Sea”, accompanied by a didactic aquarium where visitors can closely observe the extraordinary species inhabiting the Adriatic Sea.

Coralligenous Habitat

An ecosystem extremely rich in life, where colorful organisms camouflage themselves among the rocks, creating a unique biodiversity hotspot.

Cave

A peculiar environment characterized by significant variations in physico-chemical conditions, inhabited by species adapted to low-light conditions, such as the Goatfish King.

Tegnue

Underwater rocky formations rising from sandy seabeds, creating true underwater oases inhabited by fish such as peacock wrasses and sea anemones.

Riviera del Conero

Offers a landscape of high rocky coasts, known for their rich marine fauna, including wild mussels (moscioli) and various fish species such as pandoras and white seabreams.

Other Environments

Finally, environments such as the Breakwater Reef and the Sandy Seabed with fishing platforms complete the educational offering, showcasing additional habitats typical of the area.

Main Research Topics

DIDAMAR’s educational journey addresses four main research topics pursued by the center's scientists: climate change, environmental monitoring, alien species, and pollutants. Each theme is thoroughly explained and illustrated in a specific path for adults and a parallel one for children, enriched with hands-on and engaging activities that make learning fun and meaningful.

A Valuable Educational Resource

DIDAMAR is not just an exhibition space, but a valuable educational resource for promoting a better understanding of marine biodiversity and the importance of its conservation. By visiting the center, the public has a unique opportunity to embark on a real journey through marine ecosystems, exploring the richness and diversity of underwater life and gaining deeper insight into the environmental and human risks caused by anthropogenic impacts.
